Golden State Dressage CDI 3* YJ and Festival: April 9-12
We had a lot of fun at the Golden State Dressage
Festival and CDI this past week. The weather cooperated until Sunday
around 10 AM - we scratched the last 3 classes due to wind and impending rain,
but otherwise it was a pleasant week-end. The judging was pretty
tough. Some of the judges who have been "half glass full" in the
past were "glass half empty" at this show. I think they are cracking
down because of the WEG being in Kentucky, but OMG, they were tough on the
riders this week-end!
Teresa Adams ended up finishing her USDF Bronze
medal this week-end. She has completed her Bronze medal in less than a
year!! Way to go Teresa and her partner, Limited Edition.
Meg Adams and Nash ended up 3rd out of
6 in the CDI Junior division with 5 judges scoring each of her two
rides. 4 of the 5 judges have judged the Olympic games. The first
place winner was a Canadian rider, so Meg is still sitting second in Region 7
behind Genay Vaughn. Way to go Meg and Nash.
Linda Ottemoeller rode her Oldenburg, Rubicon in
Training level 3 & 4 on Saturday and received two qualifying scores for the
RAAC. This was Linda's first big show and she rode really well.
Rubicon was steady as a rock in both of his tests. They decided to scratch
their Sunday rides due to poor weather conditions (flying objects, etc. from the
wind!).
Michele Ng and her horse William rode First Level
tests 3 & 4 both Thursday and Friday. Michele ended up with a really
good score on Friday of 66%. Way to go Michele.
I rode my horse, Ori (Essex) in a class Sunday
morning after two days of coaching from my good friend, Darren Taplin. We
rode 2nd level, test 1. We had a little bit of rodeo in our first medium
canter and a couple of nice lead changes on our counter canter serpentine (!!),
but still ended up with a 61.3% (with a 3,4, and two 5's (one of the 5's on
Submission)(!!go figure!!) in the test), so I was thrilled. Ori
received many 7's in the test and an 8 on his free walk. He was really
listening, but the wind made it a little more exciting!!! I had a
blast. I haven't had this much fun riding a test in a long time. He
is a great horse and I am very fortunate to have him.

PEC Schooling Show: March 29:
We enjoyed a great schooling show at PEC
yesterday. The weather was beautiful and it was a great day for all of my
riders.
The results are as follows:
Bridget Souza/Chief Takota - this was Bridget and 4
yr. old Chief's very first show, ever. They did Intro A and B.
Chief was very confident and settled. Bridget did an outstanding job
giving Chief a positive first show experience. They scored 63.5 and 65.0,
respectively. It was fun to watch a new rising star.
Jan Oakes/Double Stuffed Oreo - This was Oreo's
first show and he and Jan were awesome together. Jan did an excellent job
preparing him and showing him. They did Tr. level 3 & 4. They
scored 64.8 on both rides, although I think the 2nd ride was much nicer than the
first. Debby Landgrebe (Oreo's owner) and her mother, Barbara Suechting
were there to enjoy Oreo's success. It was a lot of fun to watch and I was
very proud of both Jan and Oreo.
Teresa Adams/S.V. Limited Edition - Teresa and
Limit moved up to 3rd 2 and 3rd 3 at this show. They were awesome.
Both rides were mistake free with lots of expression in the medium and extended
paces. This was Teresa's first show in the double bridle and she did an
excellent job. She scored 66.410 and 68.390, respectively. They are
ready for the April show at Rancho Murietta, showing 3rd level.
Meg Adams/Nash - Meg and Nash performed the FEI
Junior Individual test and were fabulous. This test is the equivalent of
4th level, test 1. They scored 72.210 and may have ended up
high-point. Their half-passes and lead changes were excellent. There
has been a lot of improvement to Nash's uphill balance and strength. They
are definately ready to perform at the CDI in April.

Jan Oakes and her Friesian gelding Nanne (aka Seth) had a great year at 2nd level. Jan and Seth places seventh overall at the CDS championships at 2nd level and ninth in the CDS HOY 2nd level class. They also won the FHANA year end USDF award for 2nd level and placed at second level for the Vintage Cup. Jan and Seth also attended the FHANA 25th Anniversary Convention Show in
Reno this year and placed First and Second in her 2nd level classes and second in the Pas De Deux with Amanda Ehnat and Adonis. To see their pairs ride click here.
Amanda Ehnat and her Friesian gelding Adonis (aka Doni) had a rough start to the 2009 show season when a hind limb injury took them out of competition in May. They made it back to the show ring late this fall and were able to compete at the FHANA 25th Anniversary Convention Show in
Reno in October. They placed First in two of their Training Level classes and Tied for First in their Training Level 4 class with a professional rider. They also competed with Jan Oakes and Nanne in the Pas De Deux with a ride that Amanda choreographed where they placed Second. To see their ride click here. We are looking forward to seeing them move on to 1st level in the 2010 show season.
Joan Hancock and her horse Alert were also able to return to the competition ring in the 2009 season after stifle surgery. Alert placed Fourth in 1st level test 1 at the PEC schooling show this year. Their goal was to return to 1st level and we are very pleased that they were able to meet that goal and look forward to seeing them in the 2010 season.
